Audubon Live Oak #1
60 x 48 in.
Audubon Live Oaks 1 & 2 depict the majestic, enduring and tranquil presence of these abundant trees in New Orleans’ Audubon Park. Trunks and branches dominate the composition, while the color palette perfectly balances between subtle and bold, capturing these living beings in the warmth of the Southern sun.
While some forms may initially appear simplistic in their shape, the true detail is revealed in the execution and precision of the curves and edges. The size of the piece conveys the stature of the tree and its surroundings, as its branches rise up to greet the day in celebration.
My inspiration for this painting was a vague image of a large, old growth oak tree, centered in the frame with its branches extending out. During a walk in Audubon Park I captured multiple source images as options to consider. But through happenstance I had two large, blank canvases of the same size, and decided to paint “matching” pieces with the same palette, simultaneously. They are not required to be bought together, but a discount is available for prints or the originals if both are purchased together. Please be in touch for more information.
