Porch With Purple Door
27 x 54 in.
My neighborhood walks are full of inspiration. This picturesque porch and doorway are on my usual route, and were begging to be captured on canvas. There's always a little bit of interpretation, but these colors are what was there. I realized after starting the painting that they are Mardi Gras colors, which... whatever. It's a subtle nod. Maybe I'll make a shirt and sell it in the Quarter.
This piece was definitely one of my most complex, in terms of color palette. But process helps, and tools help. When I'm first creating a digital drawing in Adobe Illustrator I have to be conscious of how hard it will be to eventually paint. But every piece represents growth, and evolution clears the path for more complexity and greater challenge. Yet that challenge doesn't show itself in the painting. It is tranquil and welcoming, which feels like a success.
